The sixth edition of the METRIC Intensive Programme (IP) was hosted by the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp in Antwerp, Belgium, from February 20 to 25, 2024.

Every year, one of the member institutions of the METRIC Network hosts an Intensive Programme (IP): several full days of workshops and masterclasses on improvisation.

METRIC (Modernising European Higher Music Education through Improvisation) is a cooperative network of several leading European conservatoires and the AEC (European Association of Conservatoires) with the aim to focus on the modernisation of higher music education through intensive international cooperation in the field of improvisation.

This intensive program (IP) in Antwerp offered five full days of workshops, open-stage performances and masterclasses on improvisation in higher music education. Over 30 students and 20 teachers belonging to the METRIC Institutions came together to learn, collaborate, and perform. The event aims to enhance curriculum development and foster cooperation in the field of improvisation.

The Intensive was joined by students and representatives from 15 among the METRIC Institutions:

As well as observers from:

The IP introduced new and innovative approaches to improvisation teaching and learning and provided the space for discussion on the present and future perspectives of improvisation.

Finally, we are happy to announce that the Intensive Programme in 2025 will be hosted by the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki!
