The METRIC network is pleased to announce a Call for Proposals for its upcoming series of METRIC Online Sessions, beginning in winter 2025. These sessions will provide a dynamic space for members to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and reflect on the evolving role of improvisation in higher music education and beyond.
Eligibility: Open exclusively to METRIC Member Institutions.
Each online session will follow the format of:
- 10-minute contextual introduction
- 30-minute presentation or performance-lecture
- 20-minute moderated Q&A and discussion
The sessions will take place in the late afternoon to early evening (CET) to accommodate METRIC’s international community.
Themes of Interest (not limited to):
- Improvisation in Artistic Research: methodologies, epistemologies, creative documentation
- Improvisation and Personal Development: well-being, self-awareness, artistic identity
Professional Pathways: careers of improvising musicians, teaching improvisation, transdisciplinary collaboration - New Technologies: AI, telematic performance, creative coding, digital dramaturgy
- Cross-Border Collaboration & Ensemble Practices: impro-ensembles, online/hybrid setups, cultural exchange
Who can contribute: Educators, researchers, students, and alumni from METRIC institutions whose work reflects METRIC’s core values: improvisation as a creative, pedagogical, and professional force. Proposals that foster exchange, experimentation, and diverse perspectives are especially encouraged.
Submission Guidelines:
Please send proposals in Word format including:
- Name of presenter(s) (and supervisor if relevant)
- METRIC Member Institution
- 150-word biography
- Presentation title (for a general audience)
- 250-word presentation description (with relevant links)
