With this masterclass, Ödön Rácz wants to pass on his experience as a double bass soloist with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, where he has had the honour of working with renowned conductors and soloists. Through his many years of experience in preparing for auditions, solo performances, and his familiarity with the stage, this masterclass is a fundamental resource for young double bassists who want to establish themselves in the world of classical music.

“Out of the Strings” is an exclusive course of the Stauffer Academy, which hosts in residence some musicians of the presitigious Ensemble intercontemporain. In this course, students will be able to work with some of the leading experts in the contemporary repertoire, through a series of masterclasses, ensemble rehearsals, and concert opportunities with the Professors, studying the languages of today’s music and performance techniques.

Stauffer Creative Associates Program – Workshop for strings with Aleksey Igudesman & Roby Lakatos

Aleksey Igudesman, versatile composer and violinist, will lead the workshop ‘Strings around the World’. The programme explores different styles, techniques and genres of music, with the collaboration of Roby Lakatos. Using classical and ethnic music, as well as his own eclectic compositions and improvisation, Aleksey Igudesman explores different playing techniques, mixing them with movement and dance. Rhythms outside the common classical repertoire, alternative sound production and stylistic ornaments from Indian, Arabic, Celtic, Balkan, klezmer, jazz and rock music also come into play. Another aspect explored will be humour, and how to communicate it through one’s instrument. The workshop is based on violin technique and welcomes all instrumentalists to join in the fun. Physical movement and dance during performance, a speciality of Igudesman, will also be an integral part of this unusual workshop.
