Raluca Matei and Giulia Ripani are conducting a comprehensive study on musicians’ mental health. This study is generously funded by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
In the first phase, they mapped the existing literature to understand the key risks and protective factors influencing mental health in musicians. The next step is organising international focus groups to gather insights from musicians, music educators, students, and experts across various disciplines—social sciences, public health, musicology, etc. These focus groups aim to identify gaps in the current research and to deepen our understanding of what’s missing in the literature on musicians’ mental health.
To assure the development of the study, they are particularly keen to hear from those with lived experience of mental health challenges.

- Music Students (higher education music institutions)
