In line with its Action Plan and Sustainability Policy, the AEC is committed to raise awareness of the environmental impact of travel to its events and to encourage participants to choose more sustainable options.

The Green Travel Incentive is one of the ways the AEC translates its sustainability commitments into action, encouraging more environmentally responsible travel choices and helping reduce the environmental impact of its events.

Here are the winners of the AEC Green Travel Incentive 2026.

Travelling sustainably: participants’ experiences

What motivates people to choose more sustainable ways of travelling? Our Green Travel Incentive applicants share their experiences.

“In these times of deadlines and hectic situations, the moments when you are capable of slowing down are very important to me. That is the reason why I have decided to use my free days for arriving on Sunday and departing on Monday. This gives me the possibility to explore the city and surroundings.”
- Claudia Alsdorf - Maastricht-Trento bus and train travel to the AEC IRC Meeting
“As the saying goes: “On the train, the soul has enough time to travel along.” Even during the journey, I can get myself in the right frame of mind for my destination and prepare for my time there. As I’m travelling overnight, I don’t lose any precious time with my family due to a full day of travelling, and thanks to the few interruptions, I’ll probably even manage to write an email or two. Thanks to ÖBB, I also know that my CO2 savings for the return journey amount to 454 kg”
- Sabine Jakobs - Munster-Trento nightjet travel to the AEC IRC Meeting
“For us, sustainable mobility is not just a personal commitment but a professional responsibility. We firmly believe that more environmentally friendly forms of transport should be the standard, especially for business travel within Europe. Sustainability is a core value in both our personal and professional lives.”
- Martina Beer and Ernst Ritsch - Vienna-Hamburg train travel for the AEC Congress
