The 2023-2024 academic year was the final year of the TUNE project in its initial phase, and aimed to finalise the joint module « Traditional music beyond borders » developed by five partner institutions: University of South-Eastern Norway, University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy (Estonia), Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo (Spain), pôle Aliénor (France) and University of Ioannina, Arta campus (Greece).
The results of the project: a joint module and online platform, were finalised at a transnational meeting in October 2024 hosted by the AEC in Brussels. The partners have also finalised a Cooperation Agreement which outlines structures for the organisation and management of a long-term partnership. This extended partnership centres on the delivery of the joint module as part of all partners’ undergraduate folk/traditional music curricula.
In the medium term, this collaboration could be extended, and several institutions have already expressed an interest: in 2025, for example, the program welcomed Italian traditional music students from the Conservatorio Statale di Musica P. I. Tchaïkovsky (Nocera Terinese, Calabria) and Estonian traditional music students from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (Tallinn) to the Intensive Week in Rauland. A group of teachers from all partner institutions has defined the course content, distribution and assessment methods. Online courses began via the Canvas online platform on March 8, 2025 and will continue until the end of May 2025.
From 18th to 22nd of March, 2025 an Erasmus+ BIP (“Intensive Week”) was hosted by the University of South-Eastern Norway, campus Rauland, gathering 32 students and teachers from partner institutions. Participants had an opportunity to collaborate, to learn more about Norwegian folk music and dance traditions, and to perform in mixed and large ensembles, finalising this enriching week with a great performance.
The next TUNE intensive week will be hosted in Viljandi, Estonia in 2026.
