Brainstorming session at the AEC Congress 2026
Friday 6 November 2026, 10:00-11:30

At this year’s AEC Congress, MusiQuE Board members, Orla McDonagh and Jacques Moreau will lead a brainstorming session: Creating Conditions for Interdisciplinarity and Collaboration in and with Creative and Performing Arts Institutions.

Bringing different art forms together under one roof does not automatically lead to collaboration. It thrives when institutions deliberately create space for encounters, dialogue and experimentation. During this session, after sharing practice examples, participants will discuss four themes: cross-arts projects among students, interdisciplinary exchange among teaching staff, the role of research, and what specialised music institutions can learn from multi-arts institutions. The session will end with a look at challenges, why interdisciplinarity matters, and how it might be evaluated.

Participants from all types of institutions are welcome. The outcomes may also inform a future update of the MusiQuE Standards for reviews of multidisciplinary institutions.

More details are available in the AEC Congress programme.

MusiQuE in 2026 so far

In 2026, MusiQuE has undertaken a range of activities, reflecting its continued engagement in quality enhancement in performing arts education across diverse international contexts. Here is an overview of its activities so far:

Reviews and accreditation: programme accreditation reviews at Musikhochschule Lübeck (Germany) and Université Antonine (Lebanon); an institutional accreditation of the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music (Poland); and three site visits in Portugal in support of the national agency A3ES.

Critical Friend and consultative visits: Malmö Academy of Music (Sweden), Royal Conservatoire The Hague (the Netherlands) and Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz (Austria).

Follow-up procedures: these enhancement-oriented procedures let institutions reflect on progress since their review. Recent follow-ups took place at EAMT (Estonia), KASK Ghent (Belgium) and KKNC (Kazakhstan).

Other evaluations: the Orpheus Institute (Belgium) and the microcredentials of Cello Academy Zutphen (the Netherlands).

What’s next

MusiQuE is preparing review procedures in Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Sweden and consultative visits in Singapore and Switzerland. It is also carrying out external evaluations of the IN.TUNE Alliance, the European Music Council (EMC) and the Co-Connecting Early Childhood Music Education (CC-ECME) project.
