Opera Vision
Opera Vision is a streaming platform for opera coordinated by Opera Europa, the organisation for professional opera companies and opera festivals. For some time now, Opera Europa has been very successful in running an online platform which offers high-quality video streaming of opera productions from their members.
Opera Vision objectives and aims
The platform offers enriched content drawn from a diverse partnership (30 theatre partners). The content aims to be more varied than in the past Opera Platform project (full-length and short-form), inclusive (musical theatre in many forms) and regular (an average of two new streams per month). The main objective of the cooperation between Opera Europe and AEC in the framework of the ‘OperaVision’ project is to set up a sub-platform, where masterclasses, vocal teaching tutorials and entire opera productions will be presented.
AEC’s role in Opera Vision
The AEC is involved in this project by researching and developing methods for young artists and students of AEC member institutions to use this platform to distribute student productions/performances.
Project results
The first result of this cooperation was the streaming of the performance of Britten’s Albert Herring by the best young talent at the Royal College of Music International Opera School, which will be available online until 20.03.2019.
On New Year’s Day 2019, another opera by the Royal College of Music was streamed on the platform, namely The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.
A few days after, OperaVision launched a film from the Dipartimento Canto e Teatro Musicale, Conservatorio di Musica Arrigo Boito on “Have you ever wondered what it takes to become an opera singer?”
