The Dresden University of Music is seeking to fill the following position as of October 1, 2026:

Professorship for voice/vocal performance (salary grade: W2, 100% position)


The responsibilities of the professorship include, among other duties:

  • teaching singing as a major subject in artistic and artistic-pedagogical study programs
  • teaching in the subjects of vocal didactics and teaching practice/methodology
  • joint responsibility for the further development of the vocal department


The teaching obligation is based on § 4 (4) HSDAVO and generally amounts to 20 hours per week for an artistic professorship (100%). A part-time option is possible, if desired, in accordance with § 5 (2) of the Saxon Equality Act.

Your profile:

  • an artist of outstanding caliber and international reputation
  • completed university degree
  • several years of teaching experience, preferably at university level


International applicants must demonstrate an appropriate level of language proficiency (B2) no later than two years after starting their position at HfM Dresden.

Other duties of the  professorship are specified in § 69 SächsHSG. The requirements for appointment are specified in § 59 SächsHSG. A willingness to actively participate in the university's self-administration and committees is required.

  • letter of motivation (max. two A4 pages)
  • tabular CV giving an overview of academic, artistic, and educational background (caregiving activities can be specified and will be taken into account when determining academic age)
  • certificate of the highest academic degree
  • if available: results of teaching evaluations and/or proof of participation in continuing education and training in university pedagogy


For those appointed at a university for the first time, employment is generally initially for a fixed term of two years on a probationary basis (cf. § 71 (2) SächsHSG).
