The HarMA International Seminar event, was hosted by the Conservatori Superior de Música “Joaquín Rodrigo” de València in Valencia, Spain, from 14 to 16 April.

This three-day HarMA international Seminar event gathered more than 90 participants from 43 different higher music education institutions, offering an opportunity to immerse oneself in diverse pedagogical cultures and draw inspiration from them.

The seminar featured 24 topic-specific talks, the well-known comparative analysis session, two training sessions, and two special interest groups. Topics were focused on innovative teaching practices, e-learning methods, new and emerging technologies, and music analysis in ideological contexts.  By facilitating the exchange of pedagogical experiences and learning methods, this fourth edition continues to emphasise international collaboration, inclusivity, attractiveness, and the modernisation of music theory courses in HMEIs. The HarMA HUB project (KA220) was presented on the first day of this edition and shared its results so far and the next steps to the participants.

The next edition of HarMA seminar will take place in April 2027 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Mark your calendars!

HarMA Seminar event

The goal of the HarMA Seminar event, and the HarMA HUB project, is to bring together music theory faculties (harmony, counterpoint, composition, music analysis, ear training teachers) with the ultimate goal of sharing experiences and exchanging about their own pedagogical approaches in the field of music theory education.

Since its launch in 2018, HarMA has become a key meeting point for music theory faculties in HMEIs. The Seminar fosters international collaboration, offers a unique networking platform, and supports European mobility projects. It also highlights the often-overlooked importance of music theory courses and encourages curriculum development through new strategic partnerships within exchange programs.

HarMA HUB Transnational Project Meeting

Furthermore, on 13 April, the HarMA HUB Transnational Project Meeting took place in Valencia, bringing together all project partners for an in-person meeting. During the meeting, the partners shared updates on their respective tasks and the progress achieved so far. They also discussed the positive feedback received from the external evaluators regarding the project’s development.

As the coordinator for communication and dissemination, the AEC presented the project’s impact at both European and international levels, along with the outcomes of dissemination activities carried out to date. HarMA HUB has been showcased at several AEC events, including the AEC Annual Congress and General Assembly 2024 in Milan, and the AEC European Platform for Artistic Research in Music 2025 in Tallinn. The AEC also provided an update on the organisational preparations for the HarMA HUB dissemination event, scheduled to take place in September 2025 in Budapest.

The AEC team warmly thanks Conservatori Superior de Música “Joaquín Rodrigo” and its dedicated team for the excellent organisation of the HarMA International seminar and for hosting the HurMA HUB Transnational Project Meeting.

ABOUT HarMA HUB

HarMA HUB is a three-year cooperation partnership project funded by the European Union and coordinated by Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles. The project, targeting teachers, students and researchers in music theory, will build up on the outcomes developed within the first edition (HarMA+, 2020-2023) by gathering music theory resources in an online open platform, fostering research and pedagogical innovation, and striving for a certain level of harmonisation of the academic offer at European level.
